“Water, over time, can transform the shape of a rock. Likewise, breath has the potential to soften the body and open the posture, relaxing chronic tension and bringing a greater sense of ease, freedom and joy.”

RETREATS

The emphasis of all the retreats is coming home to your authentic SELF. We will balance asana with pranayama, easy, natural, sweet meditations, relaxation, and dialog. There will be time to walk in the country or sit in a cozy corner with your journal or your friends and a cup of tea or coffee. The retreats will provide a deeper experience of what you’ve been getting in your weekly classes, and an expansion on the Living Yoga program that was offered at The Yoga Studio. Each retreat will have a focus or a theme. They will all string together but each retreat will be complete in itself and can stand alone. My hope is that what you take away from these retreats will become a part of your ever-changing life.

Saucha (Purification)

In yoga, purification includes both the physical purity cultivated with proper diet and personal hygiene, and the mental purity attained by concentration techniques and by replacing unwholesome thoughts with wholesome thoughts. The Yoga Sutras tells us that purification brings about clarity, happiness, concentration, mastery of the senses, and capacity for self-awareness.

This seminar offers an opportunity to do some real spring cleaning. Along with the purifying practices of asana (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing) we will take a look at a few of the Kriyas (purification practices of yoga), as well as the effects of periods of silence, diet and fasting on the body, mind, emotions and spirit.

Santosha (Contentment, Satisfaction)

Santosha is part of the very foundation of a life in yoga. In his translation of the yoga sutras, Alistair Shearer states that “contentment is the equanimity that sees things as they are, undistorted by expectation, need or fear.” The yoga sutras promise that contentment brings joy as we learn to let go of our attachment to externals as a source of happiness and strengthen and deepen our inner landscape.

This seminar offers an opportunity to do just that. Through asana, pranayama, self study, discussion, interactive workshops and meditation, discover the methods yoga provides us to cultivate Santosha.

The Mahabharata offers: “Contentment is indeed the highest heaven. Contentment is supreme joy. There is nothing higher that satisfaction. It is complete in itself.”
